My Experience with Detox Day

There were only 4 hours left, when I came to know about the detox day challenge, which was held yesterday. I then quickly made a rough plan in my mind, about how I’m gonna participate in this challenge.

The major obstacle for me was YouTube. Every morning, I watch a Minecraft but series video either by Wisp or by any Minecraft streamer or an automotive review alongside my brother, so I had to decide whether to watch it or not. I came up with this simple idea, to download only a single video in the morning and then just don’t watch or even open the app again. It worked for me. I think it would be first time, my YouTube watchtime would be few minutes instead of hours.

Then something ludicrous happened, my ISP decided to shut down the internet for 3 hours straight, it’s not the first time it has happened out of the blue, but it quickly added up on how it helped me to complete this challenge. During this time frame, I played Forza Horizon 4.

It’s also gave me ample time to watch movies which I had on my watchlist (pre downloaded). In the first half of the day, I watched Seobok, a South Korean movie about man made human, I’m a huge fan of Korean cinema so ultimately this movie was on my radar because of it’s cast and not storyline, but yeah I enjoyed it, I would rate it 8/10.

The next movie was more about a documentary rather than a piece of media made for pure enjoyment. In evening I watched The Internet’s Own Boy. It gave me insights about Aaron Swartz life, and I truly believe that we lost a gem like him.

In short, I was successfully able to live without social media for a day. It feels refreshing to enjoy a day without comparing yourself or just be bombarded with dopamine all the time.
